Purpleheart is a straight grained, dense, somewhat fibrous, hardwood that comes from Central and South America. It is known for its deep purple color.  Because of its density a Native American style flute made from Purpleheart has a bright, focused, powerful tonal quality with excellent projection. It takes a smooth finish.
